Marty Brooks is an "outsider" painter who wouldn't' have it any other way, a painter whose preferred canvases are jettisoned cabinet panels, propellers, and packing crates. His work suggests contrary terms... control and spontaniety, dark and lyric, macro and micro... to name a few. He's a prankster who's titles are an essential part of the prank. Some of his works are obvious and satirical, others are bewildering, like a joke told to you in a foreign language. But most will draw the viewer past the gag du jour into his micro world, a collection of secret places where he seems most at home. -Ron Finley |
